Consolidating the data center is an ongoing process. To ensure that you continue to reap benefits from your Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI), ThunderCat and Knight Point Systems will continue to utilize
Hercules to analyze your data center infrastructure for additional opportunities to optimize, consolidate and improve performance and energy efficiency on an as-needed basis—and to maximize your investment. In this phase, you will be continually empowered to make informed decisions—even as your environment changes.
During this phase, ThunderCat and Knight Point Systems will:
Once things are running smoothly and we have achieved your initial energy goals, our team will continue to look for new energy optimization candidates. For example, if 20 percent of the data center has been virtualized, we will begin looking at other areas that might benefit from virtualization. The same is true of the cloud.
In addition to producing the required Q3 and Q4 reports, we will use the data collected in Hercules to compare projected energy efficiencies and cost savings with Year 1 numbers so we can begin to improve upon it.
The data we have gathered on your data center in Hercules can help in other ways as well. For example, we can generate a report at the end of every month detailing the number of Windows servers, Linux servers and Unix servers you are running in the cloud, along with a projection of how much your cloud hosting provider should be charging you that month. With this information, you can easily validate your cloud-hosting bill to make certain you are not being overcharged.
